7 Boutique Hotels in San Francisco (That Are Worth Your Money)

San Francisco is a popular getaway spot. You can find a range of amazing hotels to choose from for your stay. But beware of hotels that claim they are a “boutique” hotel. A lot of hotels love to use the word “boutique” because you immediately think high end, clean, accommodating hotel. Don’t be fooled. This article will provide you with the best of the best for the true boutique hotels of San Francisco.

Our recommended boutique hotels in San Francisco:

Taj Campton Place

Address: 340 Stockton Street
Overall rating: 18.5 out of 20 rating.
Rooms start from $191.00 per night.

Taj Campton Place is precisely what comes to mind when you think boutique hotel.

It’s a luxury art hotel and has been kept up beautifully. The rooms are of classic contemporary style with a very high-end feel where you will find luxuries such as Bose radios and comfortable feather beds with luxury down duvets.

The hotel has less than 100 rooms which makes it ideal for privacy and relaxation. You must partake in the mediterranean infused meals featured in the lush dining room in the Taj.

Clift Hotel

Address: 495 Geary Street
Overall rating: 18.0 out of 20.
Rooms start from $135.00 per night.

Clift Hotel is a more “happening” type of spot. It manages to be cutting edge while staying high end. The look of this hotel is nothing shy of sleek and stunning. You will see all black, ivory, and steel grey, accompanied by hardwood floors, velvet, and leather. The lobby contains a collection of eclectic furniture with a giant fireplace as the centerpiece.

The rooms are very stylish and they feature soft warming lavenders and greys. Merino wool blanket, 400 thread count sheets, and down duvets complete the scene. My favorite is the amount of natural lighting these rooms get during the day.

The dining room is a beautiful Asia de Cuba featured by Jeffery Chodorow. Make sure to not only embrace the delicious savory meal as well as the Venetian hand etched arts.

Hotel Kabuki

Address: 1625 Post Street San Francisco
Overall rating: 17.0 out of 20 ratings
Rooms start from $69 per night.

This is totally unique and complete opposite of our first 3 picks. If you are a avid lover of Japanese style culture this is for you. The building is filled with plenty of greeneries and natural coloring, with mini bonsai tress and shoji screens as accent pieces.

My favorite is the rooms. What better way to arrive then to have a welcome tea service similar to the traditional tea ceremony. If you love soaking tubs Hotel Kabuki features the very romantic and typical soaking tub to enjoy.

The name says it all. This hotel offers very calming water views featuring the beauty of sail boats and Angel Island. It is very quaint and tiny featuring only 23 rooms.

The rooms are very cozy. The bay air rushes in as you sleep on luxury goose down feather beds. Enjoy your complimentary in room breakfast while soaking in the very large full size tub.

“I’ve stayed at the Water’s Edge twice now for business. There are a few cute restaurants very close to the hotel so it’s very low stress once you get there. I love the fireplaces in the rooms and the complimentary wine and cheese in the evening and breakfast in the morning is a nice plus. I feels like a bed and breakfast in a hotel form. The beds are very comfortable.”

Hotel Tomo is a pop style type culture hotel. You will find iPod docks, gaming suites, and vending machines here.
What makes this repurposed type hotel a boutique style is the beautiful art, Japanese character plush toys, and bright murals you will see throughout it. It’s a very unique spin on upscale meets fun! Very bright colors and modern twists.
