I’ve been to Vietnam and had my lifetime share of Banh Mi or Vietnamese Sandwich. But I honestly can say that Saigon Sandwich’s makes the best Banh Mi I’ve ever had. Their Banh Mi is even better than the ones I’ve had in Vietnam.
The combination of freshly toasted Frech Baguette, the perfectly marinated tofu filling, and just the right amount of pickled veggies was heavenly.
For the non veggies, the options open up from roasted pork, pate, and chicken.
The line that often forms outside this tiny store in the Tenderloin district is a testament to its popularity. For $3.50 a sandwich, you also get to rub elbows with people from the different layers of socio-economy in city. It’s not uncommon to see people pull up in their Lexus and wait inline along with construction workers, social workers, and neighborhood bums.
Saigon Sandwich is totally worth the trip dodging the crazies down through the Tenderloin.
Note: Apparently, I’m not the only one who thinks so.
